RECOVERY is one of the most important aspects of life. To improve and grow in any given area of life, you must expose your body to stressers. Weightlifting, endurance races, playing in sport events, public speaking, and just casual workouts they are causes of stressers. When we use these stressors properly we become stronger because of them. You can let your stress build you up or you can let it break you.
There are two types of stress that we deal with on a daily basis:
Eustress or positive stress: Manageable stress which can lead to growth and enhanced competence.
Distress orNegative stress: Prolonged, or overwhelming stress that is very destructive.
Stress follows Selye’s Theory: The General Adaptation Syndrome. This theory is comprised of 3 stages.
Stage 1: Alarm (Flight or Flight response occurs. Body releases hormones (cortisol & Adrenalin) to deal with it.
Stage 2: Resistance (Body focuses on stressor while physiological functions return to normal. HR, BP , Breathing all still elevated. Body continues on high alert)
Stage 3: Exhaustion (If this continues beyond your capacity, the body’s resources diminish and you are at risk for health issues; anxiety, panic attacks, depression, heart attacks, stroke, etc)
With proper recovery methods, stressors go away and we do not reach stage 3. This allows us to adapt and get stronger from the stressors. This is also a part of progressive overloading, which is a core principle in the Benecore Training philosophy.
Our Recovery methods include:
Hydration & Nutrition
Ice & Heat
